Dreamt of travelling lately?
COVID-19 has drastically changed the way that we live, the way that we interact and the way that we travel. Since early this year the travel industry has been almost non existent, with millions of people worldwide having to cancel their travel plans. A couple of months later and the skies have started opening up again, therefore if you have been dreaming of taking that long awaited holiday or you simply want to get some sun, Cadham Pharmacy and Medicspot are here to help!
Travel restrictions are changing everyday with many airlines and countries asking their passengers and visitors for Fit to Fly certificates to prove that they have had a negative COVID-19 test result in the 72 hours prior to their travel. Over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic, the importance of reliable, accessible testing to screen for the Coronavirus disease has become increasingly apparent and that is why we at Cadham Pharmacy have teamed up with MedicSpot to offer COVID-19 PCR testing in Glenrothes as well as Fit to Fly Certificates!
What is a PCR Test?
PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction. This test is designed and used to directly detect the presence of the genetic materiel/antigens of the COVID-19 virus rather than the presence of the body’s immune response, or antibodies. This is only possible if the virus is present and someone is actively infected. The tests can tell whether or not someone has the virus very early on by detecting viral RNA (ribonucleic acid), which will be present in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease are present. At the moment the majority of the current Covid-19 tests that all the reports are coming from are using the PCR test. PCR tests give us a good indication of who is infected and who is not.
What is a Fit to Fly certificate?
A fit to travel certificate, is a medical certificate written by a doctor that confirms your fitness to fly. Please note that in order to get a Fit to Fly letter you need to test negative for Covid-19. That being said if you do test negative for Covid-19, you will be provided with a certified Covid-19 Fit to Fly medical certificate signed by an NHS trained UK General Medical Council (GMC) doctor.

What is the process?
Which package is right for you?
There are different packages on offer and different options to suit your fit to fly needs. Whether your airline requires a small time window or you only need a test without a doctor certificate, Medicspot have the package for you.
Things to consider when choosing your package
The time window required by your airline and destination
The day of the week your flight is departing
Whether or not a fit to fly certificate is required in addition to your Covid-19 PCR test
Time windows are normally given by your airline or the country you are flying to. For example, a 96 hour time window means that your swab needs to be taken within 96 hours of your flight.
Time windows (especially 48 and 72 hours) can be tight so it is important that you follow the instructions and select the correct package. You MUST select the Medicspot Covid test hub service if you have a flight departing on a Tuesday or Wednesday with a 72 hour time window or less.
How long does a Fit to Fly certificate last?
Your Fit to Fly certificate shows you are fit and able to fly around the time of your flight. this certificate may not be accepted if it was given to you a few weeks or months before you are set to travel. With the outbreak of COVID-19 some airlines and countries may specify how recent your fit to fly certificate must be. Please note: you may need a new health certificate each time you fly.
Fit to Fly certificate for pregnancy
If you are planning to fly when pregnant, airlines may not allow you to fly if you are 36 weeks pregnant or if you are carrying twins and are in your 32nd week of pregnancy even with a fit to fly certificate. This is because there is a risk of going into early labour or having a blood clot. Make sure to check the policy of the airline you’re flying with.
