What exactly is Asthma?

Asthma is a long-term condition that affects your airways and lungs. It causes the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs to become inflamed and narrow making it uncomfortable and harder to breathe. This disease usually causes symptoms such as coughing, wheezing and breathlessness and can be triggered by different things. Coming into contact with one of your asthma triggers can make your symptoms substantially worse and even bring on an asthma attack and that is why we are working hard to bring you the support and care that you need to help manage your condition.

So how do we do it?

Cadham Pharmacy in Glenrothes is an award winning asthma clinic. We provide essential FENO Testing and asthma treatment to the community of Glenrothes. Every day in the UK 3 people die from asthma - 2 out of those 3 deaths are preventable and we want to save those precious lives! We do this by working to educate our community about how to take their medication and how they can make simple changes that can transform their risk of having a fatal asthma attack. We also teach their families what to do in an emergency, ensuring that they always have the support they need.

And what is FeNO testing?

FeNO is the fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) test and it is used to measure the level of nitric oxide in exhaled breath. This test provides a good indication of eosinophilic inflammation in the lungs and alongside a detailed clinical history, it is used to support the diagnosis of asthma. The benefits of FeNO testing:

  • FeNO testing is non-invasive, simple and safe making it suitable for use in our pharmacy.

  • Patients don’t have to be referred to secondary care for additional testing, therefore you will receive quick results with no need to further visit the GP.

  • We will be able to treat you directly from our Asthma Clinic.
